MSU Denver Access Center from MSU Denver on Vimeo.
The Access Center serves as a resource to faculty on providing an accessible learning environment through the use of effective accommodations to students with disabilities. We additionally welcome questions and collaboration opportunities with university staff and departments. Our staff provides on-going support to faculty and can serve as a resource to staff in ensuring all students have equitable access to information, programming, and services at the university as a whole.
The information and resources below are intended to aid faculty and staff in meeting the institution’s obligation of providing equal access to all programs, activities and services.
Spring 2025 Ableism Workshops
The Access Center is committed to providing accessible and inclusive environments for all students. While physical and digital access are important, it is important to explore the ways in which we view disability and how that impacts access and inclusion in classrooms and other learning spaces.
With this in mind, the Access Center is excited to offer a new professional development opportunity this semester to all MSU Denver faculty and staff to explore the topic of Ableism.
Workshop description
Ableism is one of the most overlooked and least discussed forms of bias, prejudice, and discrimination. Much of how ableism manifests in higher education is unintended and unintentional. Intentions, however, do not decrease how problematic ableism remains. With over 1300 students registered with the Access Center, ableism should be actively considered and addressed by everyone working at the university. This workshop will explore the adverse effects of ableism and steps we all can take to address this issue. We look forward to having folks join us for open and engaging dialogue.
